Marietta College was founded in 1835 and is located centrally in Ohio close to the major cities of Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Columbus.
The college distinguishes itself by providing financial aid to over 90% of its students and it has a ratio of just 13 students to each faculty member, with a class size averaging at just 22. This indicates a more personal level of teaching and is well suited for students looking for more interactive learning. The college is also rated as one of the most affordable in Peterson’s Competitive Colleges, as well as Barron’s Best Buys in College Education.
The petroleum engineering program at Marietta College is considered to be the 10th largest in the country, and what sets it apart is the fact that Marietta College is the only liberal arts college that offers a program in this field. The college has local chapters of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Drilling Engineers which allows students to polish their professional qualifications, including improving their networking skills.
Additionally, the program at Marietta College maintains a near 100% placement record for its graduates thanks to it’s strong internship and study abroad programs. The college also has two major laboratories on site which focus on core and drilling, as well as natural gas. The only potential drawback is that the college only offers a Bachelors of Science in Petroleum Engineering, which means that there is no graduate or doctoral programs.
