Missouri S&T was founded in 1870 and is located in Rolla, Missouri which is currently considered one of the smartest technology cities in America. The university was rated number three by U.S. News & World Report 2013 in the number of degrees awarded in the fields of science, engineering, mathematics and technology. Additionally, it has nearly 25 centers for research, as well as an Innovation Park which acts as a center for technology excellence with a number of existing and new technology companies present.
Missouri University of Science and Technology also has a strong Distance Education program that offers a number of online courses, classes and seminars which can help students achieve their graduate degrees.
In 2016 it was ranked #269 in the Forbes list of the Best Value Colleges in the country.
The department focused on petroleum engineering also offers areas of specialty in Geological Engineering and Geology & Geophysics. Its programs are ABET accredited and have been since 1941 which makes it one of the oldest accredited programs in the country. The undergraduate program offers Bachelors of Science degrees as well as allowing students in other engineering disciplines such as Civil, Mechanical and Chemical to obtain a minor in Petroleum Engineering. The Graduate program on the other hand offers Master of Science degrees with thesis and non thesis options, as well as Doctor of Philosophy & Engineering degrees.
The program also offers students the option to obtain internships for periods of three to nine months at a number of major oil & gas companies which can help to build exposure and experience in the field. In addition, there are study abroad programs available in London and Greece to provide students an international exposure should they require.
