The University of Wyoming was founded in 1884 and offers nearly 200 types of degrees to its diverse student body of around 20,000. Currently the university caters to students from all fifty states and over ninety four countries worldwide, and it has a student faculty ratio of just fourteen to one. It has been ranked among the top universities in the country by publications such as Forbes, Princeton Review, as well as the U.S. News & World Report.

The college has also invested heavily in its research offerings, accommodating over ten dedicated research centers in various academic disciplines. There are also a variety of scholarship opportunities available to both resident and international students to pursue study at the university.



The Department of Chemical Engineering offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Doctoral degrees in the field as well. Masters students also have the option to do a dual degree and obtain a Master of Business Administration (MBA) if they wish.

The department also supports research in sixteen different areas of study all related to the latest technological developments in the industry. An important recent development has been the establishment of a new dedicated department of Petroleum Engineering. This was done due to the unique requirements of the field and the College of Engineering & Science’s desire to further develop the program.

In March 2016, the graduate program of Wyoming’s dept. of Petroleum Engineering was rewarded for its excellence by the U.S. News & World Report. Wyoming was ranked number 9 as one of the top graduate programs for aspiring petroleum engineers.
