The University of Utah was founded in 1850 and offers over one hundred degree programs for both undergraduate and graduate students.
The university is currently rated as being one of the top thirty publicly funded universities in the country, and the Carnegie Foundation has rated it a Tier 1 Research Institution. It has the unique distinction of being ranked as the number one research based educational institution in the country - ahead of even MIT - for starting new companies based on university research.
The university is also focused on building a global presence with a campus in South Korea and a well established study abroad program that encourages cultural awareness.
The Department of Chemical Engineering offers a Master’s of Science degree in petroleum engineering. The program is structured between on campus courses as well as onsite design & development work. As the focus of this degree is on the working petroleum engineer, the program is offered in a hybrid model with courses offered both online as well as classroom formats. However all students will need to submit to a resident on site field review in order to qualify for the degree.
The department has an Energy & Geoscience Institute which is a consortium of over sixty corporate sponsors in the field representing nearly twenty countries. The focus is on challenging research in the field of hydrocarbon extraction & production and offers unique exposure to prospective students.
